A question from BM:
I was wondering what all the different classes mean, i.e. PSCO,
PSO, PSA, PSW, etc.
MAPS:
P = Percussion
C = Concert
S = Scholastic
I = Independent
A = "A" Class
O = "Open" Class
W = "World" Class
So PSCO means: Percussion Scholastic Concert Open.
The classes; A, Open, and World. Are based on the skill sets that the performers
are being asked to perform. "World" would be the ensembles where the unit's
designers have presented the performers with material that requires the most
advanced skill sets.
MAPS follows the WGI classification system for all of the above. We have one
additional class which is called Regional "A" (aka REG A). This class is for
ensembles that are asked to perform skills that are not as advanced as the normal
"A" class ensembles would be demonstrating.
For additional information on the educational approach of this system please see

A question from TeacherKen (from CA):
What can we do to help MAPS lines go to the national/world level of WGI? Many CA lines make the
trip each year to Dayton/Milwaukee. Yet this year, only 6 PSA lines out of nearly 60 registered are
from east of the Rockies. Even in Dayton, there was very little representation from the tri-state area.
What can we do to help?
MAPS:
As you know Ken, being originally from this area, that the numerous percussion circuits
in this area historically have done their own thing as far as rules, classifications, and such. MAPS strictly
follows the WGI rules and utilizes many of the same judges that can be seen on the national level. By doing this
we provide the drumlines the experience of what it would be like to compete at a regional or a national championship.
We feel that by providing this experience more of our lines will have the confidence to go to compete
nationally. As you can see we have posted your question and are hopefull in doing so we can create more interest.
